Farmingville, NY - The Town of Brookhaven Youth Bureau’s INTERFACE Back to School Supply Drive will begin on Monday, July 29 and run through Wednesday, August 28. Collection centers are located in the lobby of Town Hall at One Independence Hill in Farmingville, the Highway Department Facility located at 1140 Old Town Road in Coram, and the Rose Caracappa Senior Center located at 739 Route 25A in Mount Sinai.
The Youth Bureau is asking for donations of pens, calculators, backpacks, notebooks, lunch boxes, folders, glue, binders and more. The supplies will be distributed to needy families who might otherwise not be able to provide them to their children before school begins. Last year, the Youth Bureau was able to collect enough supplies to help over 2,200 children prepare for school.
Additional Collection Bins Throughout the Town:
INTERFACE is a partnership between "good corporate neighbors and the Town of Brookhaven," united in a common effort to provide help to Brookhaven's less fortunate residents. Through volunteerism, INTERFACE provides goods and services to those in need. There are approximately 125 corporations, not-for-profit agencies, community and fraternal organizations that make up INTERFACE. It was the recipient of the President's Private Sector Initiative Award, and it has also been honored by the Eleanor Roosevelt Committee of the Governor's Office of Voluntary Service. I want to wish you a very happy and healthy New Year! As a senior myself, I am very happy to announce the Town of Brookhaven will be offering a Senior Nutrition Program in 2019 at the newly created Moriches Bay Recreation Center. This program will take place on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The nutrition program at this site will provide a healthy lunch in a friendly, social atmosphere. Residents who participate in this program will have the opportunity to participate in a wide-range of activities. Transportation to the program will be provided upon availability to residents living in Moriches, Center Moriches, East Moriches, Manorville and residents living in the Brookhaven Town portion of Eastport.
A voluntary $2.00 contribution is suggested for lunch. Funding for this program is provided by the United States Department of Health and Human Services, New York State and the Suffolk County Office for the Aging.
Additionally, local senior clubs will begin operating out of the center in February 2019. This is the first recreation facility to open in Brookhaven Town in the last twenty-years and the only recreation facility to open in southeastern Brookhaven.
This is an excellent opportunity for you to be actively engaged with neighbors in your community, while enjoying good food with friendly people. For additional information, please contact the Senior Citizen Division online or call them at at 631-451-9191.
The Town of Brookhaven has implemented a new, comprehensive notification system to keep you informed.
