Farmingville, NY - The Town of Brookhaven Youth Bureau’s INTERFACE Back to School Supply Drive will begin on Monday, July 29 and run through Wednesday, August 28. Collection centers are located in the lobby of Town Hall at One Independence Hill in Farmingville, the Highway Department Facility located at 1140 Old Town Road in Coram, and the Rose Caracappa Senior Center located at 739 Route 25A in Mount Sinai.
The Youth Bureau is asking for donations of pens, calculators, backpacks, notebooks, lunch boxes, folders, glue, binders and more. The supplies will be distributed to needy families who might otherwise not be able to provide them to their children before school begins. Last year, the Youth Bureau was able to collect enough supplies to help over 2,200 children prepare for school.

Supervisor Romaine Asks Residents to Be Prepared:
2019 Hurricane Survival Guide Available on Town Website
Farmingville, NY – Hurricane season is here, and Supervisor Ed Romaine reminds residents that the 2019 Hurricane Survival Guide is now available on the Town’s website at www.BrookhavenNY.gov . The guide is designed to help residents prepare for a hurricane and other severe weather incidents. It covers preparations and procedures for virtually every hurricane scenario and includes hurricane surge maps which are useful in understanding how different areas might be impacted by hurricanes of varying intensities. There are also important phone numbers, lists, tips, a Family Disaster Supplies Kit check list, and tear sheets for use at home and at work.
“Brookhaven Town has many miles of coastline, which makes us vulnerable to hurricanes and other severe weather conditions,” said Supervisor Romaine. “Residents need to be informed and prepared to keep their family and property safe. I encourage everyone to take the time to read the guide and take action now.”
I want to wish you a very happy and healthy New Year! As a senior myself, I am very happy to announce the Town of Brookhaven will be offering a Senior Nutrition Program in 2019 at the newly created Moriches Bay Recreation Center. This program will take place on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The nutrition program at this site will provide a healthy lunch in a friendly, social atmosphere. Residents who participate in this program will have the opportunity to participate in a wide-range of activities. Transportation to the program will be provided upon availability to residents living in Moriches, Center Moriches, East Moriches, Manorville and residents living in the Brookhaven Town portion of Eastport.
A voluntary $2.00 contribution is suggested for lunch. Funding for this program is provided by the United States Department of Health and Human Services, New York State and the Suffolk County Office for the Aging.
Additionally, local senior clubs will begin operating out of the center in February 2019. This is the first recreation facility to open in Brookhaven Town in the last twenty-years and the only recreation facility to open in southeastern Brookhaven.
This is an excellent opportunity for you to be actively engaged with neighbors in your community, while enjoying good food with friendly people. For additional information, please contact the Senior Citizen Division online or call them at at 631-451-9191.
We have been providing non-perishable food, grocery gift cards, toiletries and other necessities for all of the families affected by the government shut down. We have been struggling to keep out food pantry shelves stocked. We are assisting 50-75 Government employed families and individuals each day. This number is only expected to climb by the end of February when government assistance such as SNAP benefits and Temporary Assistance is expected ends for low income families.
The Town of Brookhaven has implemented a new, comprehensive notification system to keep you informed.
Website visitors can now subscribe to specific categories of interest, such as Parks and Recreation, Senior Services, Animal Shelter, Veterans Services and more.
As a current subscriber, you have been automatically added to our "Emergency Notifications" group, but you will need to subscribe to the new notification system to receive other Town-related news.
